new leaves

A beautiful day here in the historic Fredericksburg, Virginia area,
so I went on a photo shoot at Chatham, a Colonial Plantation
house and, because it was Union Headquarters and a field hospital
during the American Civil War (1861 - 1865), a National Battlefield
monument. The house was built circa 1748 and has hosted Washington,
Lincoln, Walt Whitman, Clara Barton and other noted guests during its
long history.
The place is a work in progress, but the gardens are beautuful. One of my
favorite trees is a huge ginko, the trunk must be at least 4 feet in diameter.
I love this time of year when the leaves are just beginning to have hints
of green. I took a number of pictures, I'll share this one first:

A burst of spring

I've bought a lot of tulip bulbs that never got planted,
the ones I bought last year did, this is the first of
that bunch fully bloomed.
